CORRECTION: The weighed sausage roll was 272g not 242g. Which makes them OVER a Kilo for 4.

This unfeasibly enormous sausage roll is from The Ginger Pig (butcher shop and charcuterie) in Moxon Street, Marlyebone.
I didn’t have a ruler to show scale in the picture, but I asked the lovely girls there to weigh one for me. The scale read 242g (0.6lb) for a SINGLE sausage roll. That’s insane! Even accounting for the token thinnest layer of pastry, this is bigger than a HALF POUND Burger. For something that’s normally served as finger food, that’s mightily impressive!
This beast of a sausage roll is so large that it couldn’t be comfortably eaten by the roadside. I ended up devouring this monster of a roll using a knife and fork at The “bring-your-own-food” Marylebone Pub a few doors down.
The pastry is a tiny token layer, the top and sides surprisingly light and crispy for a sausage roll. The meat itself was fantastic, a great big consistent hunk of pork sausage-meat, completely devoid of gristle or other nasties.
Imagine what a hungry, pastry hating, pork-loving butcher would make for him/herself. Now imagine that he has only enough meat to make half of another roll so he decides to stuff extra meat into an already oversized roll rather than waste the pork. That’s the Ginger Pig Sausage Roll.

If you have a massive appetitive, or can bring a friend, you have to try one of these. They come in four varieties and are all between £3.50 and £4.00 each.
- Traditional Pork
- Spicy Lamb
- Pork & Stilton
- Chilli & Smoky Bacon
Amusingly, I’ve already been told that it looks like a ‘reverse Gregg’s sausage roll’ (i.e. it almost ALL meat… unlike Gregg’s).
This has to be added to any foodie’s bucket list!
