“Eight Great Chefs, Eight Great Chillis Try them all and vote for your favourite.”

Well actually that’s not true… there were nine entries not eight! Saturday 17th Nov 2012 held the UK chilli standoff. Chefs competed for the winner of the best served chilli. Think of it like the UK version of a ‘chilli cook off’

This year’s competitors were;

  1. Dishoom
  2. Gizzi Erskine
  3. Lucky Chip
  4. Spice Trip
  5. The Rib Man
  6. Tim Anderson
  7. Tom Parker-Bowles
  8. Whitechapel Gallery Dining Room
  9. Will Yates

The entries were quite diverse in style, Dishoom, the Iranian Cafe, showcased an interesting and beautifully presented ‘restaurant style’ curry while Gizzi Erskine presented a ‘toppings galore’ entry! Most entries used solid cuts like beef shin with only one competitor using mince meat.

The winners of the day were…

  • FIRST PLACE: Lucky Chip with “True Grit”
  • SECOND PLACE: Will Yates with “Burn the Other Cheek”
  • THIRD PLACE: Dishoom with “Slumdog Chillionaire”

    For what it’s worth, I thought it was a close call between Lucky Chip’s “True Grit” and Will Yates’ “Burn the Other Cheek”. However my vote went to Will as his entry was both fantastically tasty and well presented. Considering how closely contested previous Tweat Up event have been, I would love to know many votes separated the top 3!
