The first batch of gin from COLDistillery, London’s newest working distillery for approximately 200 years, is expected to be released next week!
A partnership between owner Jonathan Clark and Jamie Baxter (ex-Master Distiller for Chase Distillery), has resulted in a “working distillery/visitor experience/bar in the heart of London producing Gin & Vodka”.
I had a tour and catch up with Jonathan and Jamie, just prior to open. The most impressive aspect of their brand new venue is the awesome distillation equipment which dominates one side of the room and faces a bar with a large collection of gin from around the world. If you like shiny stuff and your spirits then definitely take a look.
The distillation equipment was ordered from ‘Artisan Distilleries and brewing system specialists’ CARL and cost well over £100,000. Add on ventilation, planning permission and safety mechanisms and you could probably buy a substantial property outside London for the same price!
The venue’s gin bar is already been up and running with input from London Bar Consultants (Opening hours: 16h00 Mon-Fri). For those of you without a home distillation kit (and appropriate licences) COLDistillery also welcome corporate clients. Packages include the option of creating your own bespoke gins with the Master Distiller!
Gin lovers, this is a fantastic opportunity to see a working distillery in action. While it is still early days, contact them for informal tours as Jamie is eager to show off his pride and joy! Also keep an eye out their Facebook page for news and events as tastings plus ‘gin flights’ are on the cards.
