Tanqueray Gin Palace – Pop up gin emporium (20 Pictures)

Tanqueray Gin returned to Covent Garden with a pop-up two-day ‘Gin Emporium’ on 27-28 March. The event kicked off with a VIP night with guests including Idris Elba and Rosario Dawson… all in celebration of Charles Tanqueray’s birthday!

Gin has seen a big resurgence in recent years with artisan distillers appearing across the country. However, established big brands such as Tanqueray still innovate and raise the profile of the popular juniper lead spirit.

Tom Nichol, Tanqueray Master Distiller, was on hand to guide guests through a flight tasting, including the re-launched, limited edition, ‘Tanqueray Malacca’. This strongly aromatic gin was previously discontinued in 2001 resulting in a few surviving bottles exchanging hands on eBay for up to USD$200 a bottle. The new Malacca is limited to 16,000 cases and will be available in the UK, USA and parts of continental Europe.

Quite impressively, a girl taking part in the tutored tasting had only started drinking alcohol that night! Well done to Wendy Lam for staying on her feet.

The bar offering included three signature cocktails created by world class bartenders Tristan Stephenson; Diego Cabrere; and Erik Lorincz.

  • Tristan Stephenson
Worship Street Whistling Shop, Purl (London)
Tanqueray London Dry, Fever Tree Tonic Water, cryogenically macerated peppermint cordial, strawberry sherbet and sugar.
  • Diego Cabrera
    Le Cabrera (Madrid)
Tanqueray No. Ten, Pimm’s No.1, lemon juice, Campari, sugar syrup, Celery Bitters
  • Erik Lorincz
The American Bar, The Savoy (London)
Tanqueray London Dry, fresh lemon skin muddled with caster sugar, lemon juice, Fino Dry Sherry and Sette Vie Ratafia liqueur.
