Last year’s inaugural Ribstock by the ‘Tweat Up‘ crew was a huge success. This year it was back, bigger and better in every way. There were 10 competitors bidding to win £2,000 and the title of best ribs in London as voted by those eating and the guest judges including Gizzi Erskine and Angela Hartnett.

Big congratulations to the winners;

These beef ribs were ‘Fred Flintstone’ sized, deliciously soft and succulent with an awesome flavoursome glaze. I first met these guys last year to try their equally dinosaur sized burgers (Thanks to a tip off from burger fan @GE0RGYGIRL). In my opinion these guys are underrated and thoroughly deserve the win. Their latest home is The Wargrave Arms, Brendon St, Marylebone. Definitely worth a special visit.

The standard this year was phenomenally high. Lots of very creative entries including a gorgeously rich, deep fried offering from Neil Rankin (ex-Pittcue chef).

Carl “Disco Bistro” Clarke offered ‘Smoked Oxford Sandy Belly Ribs; Seawood and Sesame Crunch;’Next Level Slaw’; and Chilli Peanut Praline’. Look out for his new project Rock Lobsta ‏Mahiki reported to be opening on Mon July 08th in the Mayfair nightclub venue.

One of the most unique entries came from the Street Kitchen and Roti Chai team. Their distinctly Indian spiced entry was ‘Plantation Pigs’ British Belly Ribs, Tandoor-Smoked and slow-cooked, with Pineapple & Red Naga ‘Ghost Pepper’ Chilli Marinade

Best Hot Sauce 2013 – ‘Holy Fuck‘ Sauce from The Rib Man

Not a surprise winner. This has always been a crowd favourite, however it was worth noting that ‘Dalston Chillies’ came a relatively close second trailing by a handful of votes.

Well done to all the competitors… already looking forward to Ribstock 2014. If you’re missed out take a look at the photos. A must for the diary next year!

The five anonymously numbered entries were:
1. Billy Franks 2. ‘Fuck Yuzu’ (By The Ribman) 3. Chef Patty 4. BBQ Whisky Beer 5. ‘Holy Fuck’ (By The Ribman)
