WHAT’S GOING ON?
NEW! For all of you asking, “What’s happening?”, “What’s opening?”, “What’s new?” and “What’s good?”, this series of posts is for you. This will list events, openings, streetfood, bars, plus anything interesting which has sprung up on my radar. It won’t be a comprehensive listing, as there are way too many in our great city and there are others already doing a great job of that right now.
– Boopshi Schnitzel & Spritz (Schnitzel Restaurant), The Gin Joint (Bar & Brasserie)
POP UP EVENTS:
– Licky Chop
– Bunny Chow at Boxpark, Gizzi Erskine’s Street Food Fiesta
– The Gin Joint: (Bar & Brasserie)
– Congrats to the Meringue Girls on their book launch
It is the start of restaurant opening season. There are at least 27 venues due to open in the 30 days of September. This week’s big fuss was over David Beckham and Gordon Ramsay’s collaboration, Union Street Cafe, which opened its booking lines yesterday.

(Opens today) – This gin bar and brasserie is overseen on the food side by Executive Chef Oliver Tobias, ex-Royal Opera House and Maze. More details to follow…

Licky Chops BBQ
‘Licky Chop’ is a weekend BBQ From the team behind Lucky Chip Burgers. (Hence the name!). These guys are excellent with the BBQ oven and take up residency at Helmsley Arches from Thursday through to Sunday.
I highly recommend the fantastic ‘Onglet Steak with chimichurri’ or the ‘Squid potatoes and aioli’.

(Late September) – Especially for all you South Africans, street-food vendor ‘The Bunny Chow’ will be serving the classic Cape Malay dish at The Boxpark in Shoreditch. Despite the name, a ‘Bunny Chow’ doesn’t contains rabbit. It is traditional South African fast food consisting of a curry served in a hollowed out loaf of bread.
A selection of 12 bunnies will be on rotation including a “Money Gland Bunny” (Meatballs simmered in ‘Monkey Gland Sauce’) and a “BBQ Bunny” (Pulled pork in BBQ sauce with melted cheese)
(Sat 12h00-24h00 Free Entry) – The team behind the hugely popular Street Feast Street-Food Market in Dalston Yard have teamed up with Celebrity Chef Gizzi Erskine to present a Saturday of Spanish food. The line up includes well known restaurant and street-food names including Jose Pizarro, Morito, Salt Yard Group (Salt Yard, Dehesa and Opera Tavern), Tramontana, Bar Tozino, Camino, Omar Allibhoy (Tapas Revolution), Rachel McCormack and Bocaface. Drinks will be available from Copa de Cava and Street Vino, plus Spain-inspired ice creams from Sorbitium Ices.
For full details see Tweat Up‘s page.
The Gin Joint (Bar & Brasserie)
(Soft Opening Today) – Gin Joint brasserie and gin bar starts their first day of soft-opening at Barbican Centre today. They claim over 40 varieties of gin, and the first in London to offer chilled Brokers Gin on tap!

Meringue Girls – Book Launch
Congratulations to Meringue Girls for their book launch last night. These two girls been working the street-food scene relentlessly appearing at street-food markets and events like KERB, Feast London and they are even stocked in Selfridges. Look out for their ‘meringue kisses’.
Unfortunately I couldn’t be there but I understand there was a lot of frivolity. For those with a sweet tooth, definitely check out their new wares.

HOW TO FIND OUT WHAT’S HAPPENING:
London is an awesome city for events. I am asked what is happening a lot. There is no way I can cover everything happening, however there are several good sites to use, depending on what you’re seeking.
