WHAT’S GOING ON?
This is the second weekly updates of “What’s happening?”, “What’s opening?”, “What’s new?” and “What’s good?”. This lists events, openings, streetfood, bars, plus anything interesting which has sprung up on my radar. It won’t be a comprehensive listing, as there are way too many in our great city and there are others already doing a great job of that right now.
– Koya Bar (Japanese – Soho)
– 28/30 Mayfair (Brasserie – Mayfair)
– Rosa’s (Thai – Carnaby Street)
POP UP EVENTS:
– Scottish Malt Whisky Society – ‘Pearl Dram’ (Whisky & Oysters)
– (The last) KERB Saturday at Kings X
– Lidl Drinks Olympics
– None this week!
– Meatopia (Festival of Meat – Tobacco Dock)
Koya Bar (Japanese – Soho)
(Opened Mon 02-Sep-2013) – Koya has opened a sister venue next door to their existing site, taking over from the old Mooli’s building. It is small as I counted only 12 seats, however it will add much needed capacity to their existing venue in the evenings and is serving Japanese style breakfasts in the morning.
28/30 Mayfair (Brasserie – Mayfair)
(In soft launch with 50% off food on Thu 5th, Mon 9th and Tue 10th Sep)
This “Wine Workshop & Kitchen” is from the team of master sommelier Xavier Rousset and chef Agnar Sverrisson well known for their Michelin Starred restaurant ‘Texture’. It joins its two sister venues in Marylebone Lane and Fetter lane. Food is typical French bistro with steaks and the cold seafood bar prominent in the menu.
NOTE: VISITED TODAY… WRITE UP TO FOLLOW…
Rosa’s Thai Café (Carnaby Street – Thai)
(Opened Mon 02-Sep-2013) – The popular small Thai Cafe chain opens its flagship store in Ganton Street, just off Carnaby Street. It takes over the space formerly occupied by Thai restaurant, Mangosteen, next to Cha Cha Moon.
FULL LISTING: If you like trying new places visit the Hot Dinners Coming soon page for a comprehensive listing.
Scottish Malt Whisky Society – ‘Pearl Dram’ (Whisky & Oysters)
Tradition has it that the new season’s first oyster from Loch Tarbert, Jura, receives a splash of whisky upon opening. The Pearl Dram Whisky and Oyster Bar celebrating the Scotch Malt Whisky Society 30th anniversary and the new oyster season opens from Thursday 5th September to Sunday 8th September at 53 Monmouth Street.

The chefs serving meaty dishes on the day will be a mix of US Chefs and UK favourites including Richard H Turner (Hawksmoor), Fergus Henderson (St John) and Daniel Doherty (Duck & Waffle).

HOW TO FIND OUT WHAT’S HAPPENING:
London is an awesome city for events. I am asked what is happening a lot. There is no way I can cover everything happening, however there are several good sites to use, depending on what you’re seeking.
