Rum Club, Trailer Happiness
177 Portobello Road, Notting Hill, W11 2DY (map)
Infamous rum bar Trailer Happiness isn’t just about drinking ridiculous amounts of rum (responsibly). It also holds educational sessions for those yearning know more about what they’re drinking and why. Every few Mondays they hold an informal Rum Club where a rum brand, rum expert or sometimes a rum distiller will come to preach the virtues of their brand to London’s rum drinking masses.
This week, long time attendee (and soon-to-be rum importer), Roger Barnes enthused his love of all rums Jamaican. To balance a session earlier in the year with Global Rum Ambassador, Ian Burrell, Barnes focused on the rums NOT produced by the hugely popular Appleton Estate and what he believes to be the essence of a Jamaican rum (SPOILER: It’s the use of a pot-still).
For those with a true interest in rums I suggestion you contact Trailer Happiness to find out who is speaking and when. Sessions are always held on a Monday evening from 19h00, every few weeks, but they do often run on ‘Caribbean Time’ (i.e. ‘any day now’) so do check.
