Breakfast anyone? The Fish & Chip Shop near Liverpool Street has commenced breakfast service from 07h00-11h00 weekdays — Work nearby? It’s 50% off until Fri 23rd Jan!
Breakfast in The City is an interesting affair. I once worked nearby and I still remember zombified colleagues and clients crawling to their desks on a Friday morning. This would be the inevitable consequence of a very heavy Thursday night. Left to fend themselves, a junior would often be sent to McDonalds or the enterprising local sandwich shop who specialised in the ‘entire fry up breakfast in a bun’ hangover cure.
Occasionally a generous team leader would order industrial quantities of bacon and egg sandwiches to kick start the day. Others managers would suddenly call an emergency ‘team meeting’ at a venue nearby. If any of those managers are reading this, The Fish & Chip shop will be a good option for either as they supply both the take away or eat in options. I’m pretty sure that I saw a sizeable takeaway order being whisked out of the door when I visited.
The cooked breakfast pictures you see are the ‘Crab & Chilli Omelette’ and the ‘Fisherman’s Breakfast’ listed as “Streaky bacon, Cumberland sausage, eggs, field mushrooms, grilled tomato, baked beens, toast with a coffee of your choice”. For those of the more ‘continental persuasion’ there are pastries, ‘healthy’ options, and an array of traditional egg dishes including the Benedict, Royale, Florentine choices.
Right now both Patty & Bun Joe and Honest Burgers are taking on McDonalds with their hugely popular alternatives to the McMuffin breakfast, plus Bad Egg by Neil Rankin near Moorgate offers more exotic egg options. However for a more traditional knife and fork style experience (which can easily pass for a business meeting) The Fish & Chip Shop is a good choice.
Disclosure: Many thanks to The Fish & Chip shop for their hospitality and complimentary breakfasts.
