The London Cocktail Society
Bar Anais, 115 Chancery Lane, WC2A 1PP
The London Cocktail Society presents an evening of Pétanque at Baranis.
Bar Anais describes itself as a “chic London bar that transports you in an instant to sun-kissed Provence”. It promises provençal food, wine, pastis and interestingly the only indoor pitch for a French game called Pétanque.
From my understanding, it’s like the game of bowls, but with no run up, no rolling and no grass. We just threw balls in teams of two from behind a line.
According to Wikipedia “Pétanque is a is a form of boules where the goal is, while standing inside a starting circle with both feet on the ground, to throw hollow metal balls as close as possible to a small wooden ball”.
So, maybe we didn’t play it properly, and I’m pretty sure that any passing Gauls would’ve given us very disapproving French looks. But throwing heavy objects while drinking cocktails… could go wrong?
So when’s The London Cocktail Society archery event?
